About the Petition
"Responsibility does not only lie with the leaders of our countries or with those who have been appointed or elected to do a particular job. It lies with each of us individually." — Dalai Lama
Contrary to popular belief, Mahatma Gandhi, the leader whose name has become synonymous with peaceful action, was never awarded the Nobel Peace prize. His contemporary, Badshah Khan, whose military actions were an embodiment of Gandhi's teaching and philosophy, is seldom celebrated, and his accomplishments have received minimal attention in the public eye.
In the Light is confident that, together, we can ensure that the acts of these two leaders do not go unrecognized! The Gandhi and Khan Petition for Peace urges the Nobel Committee to posthumously award the Nobel Peace Prize to Mahatma Gandhi and Badshah Kan. As recipients of the award, the two will continue to find a place in our written histories, our textbooks, and our literature, and we can trust that their stories will endure to inform the experiences of generations to come.
When signing this petition, you take a step in raising global consciousness and in finding an honorable place in history for those revered leaders who chose nonviolence as a source of power for ending conflict. The intent of this petition, beyond recognizing Gandhi and Khan with the Nobel Peace Prize, is to raise awareness that pathways of violence are not the only avenues for creating peace.
